Week 4 – Using Timeline.js to create a timelineEnglish 201 Posting
This week we were tasked with creating either a timeline or a story map. I chose to do the timeline since I will be creating one for my Alaska Highway Project. I based my timeline off some of the dates I find most important to highlight and believe that I will be using this website for my project. The website I initially thought I would be using to create my timeline is much harder to use than this one.
I decided to pick out the major turning points for building the Alaska highway such as the attacks on Pearl Harbor and the Aleutian Islands. I also mentioned the major road accomplishments but decided to leave out the smaller ones so that I can add them in later while working on my final project.
I was unable to link any of the videos or pictures I wanted to, but I believe that is an issue with my computer and not the website itself. I will be having someone check out my computer so that visuals may be added in my final project because I believe they are very important in this story.
Overall, I really enjoyed working with this software because it was very user friendly and allowed for different visuals to be added. As I already said, my computer will not let me include visuals at the moment, but I will most definitely be having this looked at so that I can include them later! Nothing was hard to use and the instructions offered a step-by-step process to follow so I was not confused the entire time. I also liked the template they had created to use to make the timeline. Information just had to be inputted under the correct headings making for an easy process.
I am having a hard time trying to embed my timeline on my blog so i’m not sure if that is user error, or just difficulties between the software. If it is an issue with the software, I believe that would be a major limitation to those of us with WordPress blogs because we would be unable to post it. If not, then I can see this software being useful to students trying to understand historic timelines, or when someone is trying to present facts in a timeline. Arrow keys can be used to move throughout the timeline so overall, this has been a great experience!
